Former Tallahassee Mayor and failed 2018 Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum is back in jail after prosecutors say he skipped a required drug test and then tested positive for methamphetamine.
You truly cannot make this up.
Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney John Oxford told TMZ that Gillum was participating in Alabama’s random “color code” drug-testing program. Under the system, defendants must call a hotline every day and report for testing whenever their assigned color is announced.
According to Oxford, Gillum’s color was called, but the former Tallahassee mayor failed to appear.
Gillum was then tested when he appeared in court Thursday. Prosecutors say that test came back positive for methamphetamine, prompting authorities to take him back into custody.
The latest arrest comes barely a month after police in Daphne, Alabama, allegedly discovered three grams of methamphetamine, eight pre-rolled marijuana joints, four cut straws, three pipes, and a bong during a traffic stop.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, police said they pulled Gillum over on July 2 in Daphne, Alabama, for erratic driving on U.S. Highway 98. Officers spotted a glass pipe in plain view on the center console. That gave them probable cause to search the vehicle.
What they found, according to the Daphne Police Department and an incident report obtained by TMZ: three packages of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine (about 3 grams), several rolled marijuana cigarettes/joints, a bong, multiple pipes, and cut straws.
Gillum was booked into the Daphne City Jail and later transferred to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility on charges including unlawful possession of a controlled substance (a felony), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released the following day.
This is the third time Gillum has been linked to meth. In March 2020, Miami Beach police found the then-rising Democrat inebriated and vomiting in a Mondrian South Beach hotel room alongside a male escort who was suffering from a suspected drug overdose. Officers recovered three small baggies of suspected crystal methamphetamine in the room.
Gillum denied using meth, claimed he had only been drinking, and later checked into rehab for alcohol abuse. No charges were filed at the time.
