Cops are hunting for the US Postal Service driver who they say fatally struck a man before fleeing the scene — one of two fatal hit-and-runs in the early hours of Saturday, police and sources said.
The 66-year-old victim was crossing Ninth Avenue mid-block near West 55th Street in Midtown around 5:30 a.m. Saturday when he was mowed down by the non-stopping vehicle, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sources said the vehicle involved was a USPS mail truck, and investigators are still tracking down the driver.
Another man had died in the Bronx about an hour and a half earlier.
The victim in that incident, believed to be in his late 50s, was assaulted by another man about 10 minutes before he was struck, sources said.
He was already laying in the street — likely knocked out from the fight, sources said — near College Avenue and East 166th Street in Morrisania when a white BMW SUV ran him over at around 3:55 a.m.
The BMW didn’t stay at the scene and investigators are still looking for the driver.
The man was then ran over a second time by an NYPD vehicle when the operator didn’t see him on the road, police said. Police said the cop car wasn’t chasing the BMW.
The cop car was traveling at about 12 mph and immediately stopped and then administered medical attention.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
