Newly Appointed County Fire Chief Collapses During July 4 Fireworks Safety Demonstration (VIDEO)

Prince George’s County’s newly appointed Fire Chief, Thelmetria “Meme” Michaelides, collapsed during a Fourth of July fireworks safety demonstration at the county’s training academy.

The incident occurred amid a press conference-style setup, complete with live Q&A, as Chief Michaelides shared safety tips and protocols ahead of holiday celebrations.

Chief Michaelides, who was just sworn in last Monday, collapsed unexpectedly.

Eyewitnesses say a local ambulance was immediately on-site, and the Chief was conscious and breathing as she was rushed to a nearby hospital, according to FOX5.

Prince George’s County EMS/Fire Department released the following statement:

“During a fireworks safety press conference today, Prince George’s County Fire Chief, Thelmetria Michaelides, experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency. Firefighters and paramedics quickly treated and transported Chief Michaelides to a local hospital, where she has fully recovered.

Chief Michaelides commented “I am so thankful for the immediate care and compassion that I received from our own Fire/EMS Department firefighters and paramedics, as well as for the expert care I received at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. I am grateful for all the prayers and well-wishes offered by so many in our incredible community.”
