The Houston Texans announced Saturday that the organization was donating $500,000 to help support those affected by the devastating floods that hit central Texas this week.
The National Football League announced Sunday that the Texans, Dallas Cowboys and NFL Foundation have now contributed a combined $1.5 million in relief efforts.
“The National Football League’s two Texas-based teams — the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans — are uniting with the NFL Foundation to support the victims’ families and survivors of the heartbreaking floods in central Texas,” the league’s statement said. “Together they will contribute $1.5 million to provide both immediate assistance and long-term resources to those most impacted by the catastrophic flooding.”
A torrential storm swept through the area, resulting in a confirmed death toll that has risen to at least 70, according to The New York Times, which also reported Sunday that 11 campers and one counselor from a girls’ summer camp in Kerr County are still missing, per the county sheriff.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Saturday the camp had been “horrendously ravaged” by flooding from the Guadalupe River.
Kerr County, which is northwest of San Antonio, is where at least 59 people have been killed in the floods, per the Times.
Fast-moving waters rose more than 20 feet in less than two hours along the Guadalupe River on Friday morning, according to CNN. Flash flood warnings and watches remained in effect for parts of central Texas on Saturday.
Millions of people are still under flood watches Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has been activated in Texas after President Donald Trump announced he signed a major disaster declaration for the state, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of Homeland Security noted that 850 people have been rescued so far, per CNN.
