LA man regrets asking city to fix pothole: ‘Laughing at how bad this is’

Fill ‘er up.

After three months of looking at a massive crater on his property, a Los Angeles man woke up to an even bigger mess.

According to a Reddit post, a large pothole had been collecting rubble for over a year after the homeowner begged the county to come out and fix the monstrosity. The property owner said on May 9, 2025 the request was submitted.

He was abruptly jolted awake on Monday by a loud asphalt truck completing a not-so-great job. The LA resident claims the workers left “asphalt everywhere,” not even trying to fill the potholes but instead “just splashing it around everywhere.”

“They’re here for maybe 30 minutes then leave. I get a chance to check out the work eventually and I’m laughing at how bad this is,” the post read. “The worst pothole filling I’ve ever seen, after 13 months waiting.”

While it was the county workers who failed to appropriately patch the divot, it was LA Mayor Karen Bass who took the heat with a flood of users blaming her for the poor job.

“Karen Bass’s Los Angeles. Third world sh–,” one Redditor wrote.

Another chimed in, claiming that the mayor would wrap it up in a bow to sell it as a success to the property holder. “Karen Bass is gonna make a video patting herself on the back and saying it couldn’t be done properly [because] a car was parked there.”

A third commenter gave the homeowner some advice when the weather starts to turn.

“Just wait till it rains, it will be everywhere,” they said. “Up here – they do this weird patching and then when it rains it all just flows down the street in large chunks – plus lots of marble size pieces that stick to tires.”

They suggested throwing dirt on the ground so the pieces don’t stick to the bottom of their shoes.

The terrible filling is a phenomenon that the mayor herself can’t seem to get rid of. Just last week Bass was blasted after promising to fix a pothole and instead filling the street with “no parking” signs.

“So we couldn’t repair the pothole,” Bass said in a video posted to social media. “So you know what we did? We put up no parking signs so that hopefully there won’t be anybody parked here tomorrow morning.”

The post infuriated residents, as drivers are constantly complaining about road conditions.

Streets all over the city have been forced to abandon paving projects after severe budget constraints have forced the city to use temporary “spot-treating” by patching individual potholes.

The California Post previously reported that a majority of LA’s 22,000 lane miles face structural failure.
