Jamal Musiala was stretchered off at halftime of Saturday’s FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain with a left leg injury.
The Bayern Munich midfielder collided with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma late in the first half during a 50-50 challenge inside the PSG goal box. The injury was not for the faint of heart — so much so that replays were not shown on the screens inside of Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
“He had to go to hospital, and it didn’t look good,” said Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany. “The overwhelming feeling is that I hope it’s not as bad as it looks, and that he will get through this one.”

Bayern Munich fell 2-0 in a match that saw PSG’s Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernández receive red cards, bringing the Champions League winners down to nine men for the final 10-plus minutes.
Musiala is currently tied for third among all players with three goals in the tournament, one behind Marcos Leonardo of Al Hilal and Benfica’s Ángel Di María. The 22-year-old German made his professional debut with Bayern Munich in 2020 at age 17 after spending nearly a decade in the youth academy of Premier League side Chelsea.
“It’s the second setback in a very short time. He’s a player that loves football – it’s his life,” Kompany said of Musiala. “It will hit hard, but he’s going to get through it and come back stronger. Hopefully, he’ll be there to lift trophies with Bayern next season.”

PSG advances to Wednesday’s semifinal at MetLife Stadium and will play the winner of Saturday’s late match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
