Trump rages against ‘train wreck’ Elon Musk, predicts ‘ridiculous’ America Party will falter

President Trump lashed out at “train wreck” former friend Elon Musk Sunday, calling his push to form a new political party “ridiculous.”

On Saturday, Musk announced the America Party as a centrist alternative to the two-party system following his fury over the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump griped on Truth Social the following day. “He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States — The System seems not designed for them.”

“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds! Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running ‘machine,’ that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.”

Trump, 79, flirted with a third-party run in 2000 under the banner of the Reform Party, but later withdrew from consideration.

Musk announced on Saturday that he is establishing the “America Party” in response to Trump’s tax-cut and spending bill, which Musk said would bankrupt the country. Elon Musk/X

Musk, 54, has characterized his America Party as being committed to slashing the deficit, which had been the billionaire’s crusade during his time as the driving force behind the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk has since griped that Trump’s megabill has made a “mockery of the work” done by his DOGE team to rein in the deficit.

The One Big Beautifull Bill Act, which Trump signed into law July 4, is set to add $3.9 trillion to the nation’s debt over the next 10 years, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party. We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion,” the president told reporters Sunday as he returned to Washington from his Bedminster, NJ club.

“It really seems to have been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”

During the 2024 cycle, Musk spent more than $290 million to help get Trump and Republicans elected.

Trump and GOP critics have argued that Musk’s beef stems from anger over the new law’s gutting of green energy subsidies. Last month, the South Africa-born billionaire attacked the marquee legislation as giving “handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.” But Musk has denied that his personal financial interests motivated his decision to go ballistic on the GOP.

“It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time,” Trump added on Truth Social, referring to the Biden-era rule requring more than two-thirds of passenger cars and light trucks sold by 2032 be electric or hybrid vehicles.

“Additionally, Elon asked that one of his close friends run NASA and, while I thought his friend was very good, I was surprised to learn that he was a blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before,” Trump went on, describing his decision to yank his nomination of Jared Isaacman to helm NASA, which preciptiated the explosive feud last month.
