The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

He was awake and talking when he was transported, though his exact condition was not immediately known.

About three minutes after the stabbing, a deputy spotted a man in his 50s near Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street, in the park’s northwest corner.

Deputies used a Taser to take the suspect down and detain him.

The male suspect ran from the scene but was captured a couple of blocks away by Fresno County sheriff’s deputies.

The weapon used in the attack was recovered, authorities said.

Sheriff John Zanoni said the victim was simply going about his daily work when he was attacked.

Investigators are now working to determine what sparked the violence and whether the employee was specifically targeted.

Zanoni described the stabbing as “unprovoked.”

The suspect is expected to be taken to a hospital before being booked into the Fresno County Jail, officials said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
