Mt. Carmel High School in lockdown as San Diego police secure campus

A California high school was put on lockdown as cops were seen approaching with their rifles drawn.

A huge police presence surrounded Mt Carmel High School in San Diego after a reported threat Monday.

Footage from the scene shows more than a dozen police vehicles surrounding the school and officers near the campus’s main entrance.

Sunset Hills Elementary and Black Mountain Middle School nearby also had their campuses secured.

It’s unclear what the threat is related to.

Mt Carmel’s public address system told students their classrooms would be checked by officers.

The San Diego Police Department stated in an X post: “SDPD Northeastern Division officers are responding to a reported threat at Mt. Carmel High School. Significant police resources are on scene working to ensure the campus is safe while officers investigate the report. Please avoid the area. Updates will be provided as information is confirmed.”

A letter from Poway Unified School District officials was sent out to families about the police activity at the campus, located at 9550 Carmel Mountain Road, according to ABC 10News San Diego:

Dear Mt. Carmel High School Families,

We want to make you aware that Mt. Carmel High School is currently in a lockdown at the direction of law enforcement while officers respond to a situation.

During a lockdown, students and staff remain secured inside classrooms and other designated spaces, and movement on campus is restricted. Please do not come to campus at this time, as doing so could interfere with law enforcement response efforts.

We know this may be concerning for families. We are following the direction of law enforcement and will provide additional information as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.
