UPDATE: Secret Service Shuts Down White House North Lawn After Cell Phone Thrown Over Fence

UPDATE: According to NewsNation reporter Jessica Marquez, the White House North Lawn has now been reopened after 30 minutes. The area has been fully cleared.

According to Kimberly Halkett, citing Karoline Leavitt, “Someone (presumably a tourist) threw their phone over the fence (of the White House).”

The Secret Service abruptly locked down the North Lawn of the White House Tuesday morning and ordered all press to shelter in place inside the Brady Briefing Room.

According to reporters on the ground, agents quickly cleared the area, sparking alarm and confusion as no details were initially provided.

A source told NewsNation that the disruption was reportedly triggered after someone hurled a cellphone over the North Lawn fence, prompting an immediate security sweep. The Secret Service has yet to release an official statement.

This is a developing story.
