Art Garfunkel Says He Is Considering Leaving America Over Trump’s Presidency

Art Garfunkel during an interview with CBS in 2025.

Simon and Garfunkel singer Art Garfunkel says he is seriously considering leaving the U.S. because of the Trump presidency

The 84-year-old singer made the remarks during an interview with The Guardian after being asked about climate change and those currently in power.

“I don’t like America’s position at all,” Garfunkel said.

He then went further, saying he has considered leaving the country altogether.

“I’m not aboard, and I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly,” he said. “It’s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water’s rising, that so many people are starving.”

Garfunkel also attacked Trump over Venezuela, questioning the president’s intervention in the country.

“When took over Venezuela, are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it?” Garfunkel said.

“It’s shocking, and you think: how on earth are we gonna change the presidency?”

He said he takes comfort in the fact that Trump will eventually leave office.

“But Trump won’t last forever,” he said. “So we’ve got to hope.”

Garfunkel’s comments come eight months after U.S. forces successfully captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and flew him to the U.S. to face federal charges of international drug trafficking.

Last month, Trump announced a deal in which the U.S. secured majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan oil reserves through a partnership with major oil companies.

The deal could lead to the U.S. gaining access to 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan crude.

Garfunkel, meanwhile, appears sufficiently unhappy with the Trump administration that he is now openly contemplating leaving the country.

He would not be the first celebrity to leave the U.S. following Trump’s return to power in January 2025.

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi relocated to the United Kingdom after the 2024 , with DeGeneres later confirming that Trump’s victory was a deciding factor in staying there.

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell moved to Ireland in January 2025, saying she would consider returning only when she believed “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights.”

Rosie O’Donnell says she’s going to go on a ‘presidential blackout’ and stop talking about Trump to take away his “power.”

“To give this narcissist no power…none. Do not say his name.”
