Massive fire engulfs Beverly Hills apartment complex as entire roof caves in

A massive multi-alarm fire tore through the roof of a Beverly Hills apartment complex Wednesday morning while firefighters desperately battled the raging inferno.

The heavy blaze erupted in the 200 block of South Rexford Drive around 10:30 am. The Beverly Hills Fire Department arrived on scene to find most of the building heavily engulfed in flames.

The enraging fire caused severe structural damage to the building that led to a partial roof collapse while firefighters made aggressive efforts to contain the blaze.

Rexford Drive remains closed to traffic between Charleville Boulevard and Gregory Way while responders finalize their work.

“As firefighters attacked the fire, the roof began collapsing, so firefighters retreated and are using area ladder trucks to battle the blaze. There are no injuries reported,” the City of Beverly Hills said in a statement.

Authorities said that firefighters had to shift to defensive strategy, using aerial ladder trucks to dump high-volume water streams onto the blaze from above.

Two firefighters were transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to receive treatment for heat exhaustion and a minor burn, respectively. Emergency crews are expected to remain on the scene for several hours to monitor the area and ensure the site is fully secure, the Beverly Hills Fire Department said in an afternoon update.

School pickup at Beverly Vista Middle School will proceed as normal without any disruption after students and staff were placed under a precautionary shelter-in-place order. People in residential buildings directly adjacent to the blaze were swiftly evacuated,
