California housewife accused of murdering husband with flagpole in Palm Desert

A 65-year-old California wife is accused of killing her husband with a flagpole at a Palm Desert home — as her disturbing history of alleged domestic violence comes to light.

Authoritie said Vicky Kim “inflicted great bodily harm” on her husband during the alleged attack last week at a condo complex in the wealthy enclave near Palm Springs, according to court documents obtained by SFGATE.

The incident unfolded on Sept. 4 at The Enclave, a condominium community that bills itself as a luxury residence and boasts fitness centers, putting greens and resort-style pools and spas.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially responded to a call of “unknown trouble” on 35000 block of Gateway Drive around 9:45 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

When they arrived, deputies found a victim suffering from traumatic injuries consistent with a physical assault.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kim, 65, was arrested at the scene and booked at the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder, the sheriff’s office said.

The alleged attack was not the first reported trouble between Kim and her husband.

Riverside County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Molly Smith told SFGate that Kim already had several domestic violence cases involving her husband.

“In January of this year, our office charged Ms. Kim with a felony, obtained criminal protective orders, and intended to aggressively prosecute her for her crimes against her husband,” Smith told the outlet.

Kim’s past also includes an eyebrow-raising case in Hawaii.
