A 15-year-old girl was shot and wounded just blocks from the New York governor’s mansion in Albany.
The teen was shot in the leg Wednesday around 6:35 p.m. on the corner of Ash Grove Place and Trinity Place – only three blocks from the sprawling manor where Gov. Kathy Hochul lives on Eagle Street.
First responders treated the young victim at the scene and then took her to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Albany Police Department.
No arrests have been made, and the circumstances remain under investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest it may have been a gang-related shooting and that the 15-year-old was not the intended target, sources said.
Hochul was not home at the time of the incident. She had been in Westchester and Queens earlier in the day for various engagements ahead of her November 3 re-election bid, when she’ll face Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
Teen violence has been an ongoing problem in Albany — with Wednesday’s shooting just the latest this month.
Four teens were hit by gunfire across town October 4 in an incident that left a 15-year-old boy dead, the Times Union reported.

Police are looking into whether that incident had anything to do with the one outside the governor’s mansion.
Summer also saw a spree of incidents with 10 people wounded – mostly teens – on the Fourth of July alone, while two homes burned to the ground over teen-related fireworks usage, Spectrum News 1 reported.
Those incidents prompted calls to change the state’s 2019 “Raise the Age” bill — which raised the criminal age of responsibility from 16 to 18 – but the effort fizzled out.
The shooting near the Executive Mansion this week wasn’t the first time bullets flew outside a New York gubernatorial candidate’s home just before an election. In September 2022, daughters of gubernatorial hopeful Lee Zeldin took cover in their Long Island home when a gangbanger shot two rivals outside their home.
Zeldin incorporated that shocking ordeal into his tough-on-crime stump speeches that helped land him six points short of toppling Hochul that year.
