France’s President Macron slammed “foreign leaders” for “stupid” comments about the riots in his country, in an apparent swipe at U.S. President Donald Trump for talking about the widespread lawlessness seen in recent weeks.

Speaking on a trip to Doha, Qatar on his tour of oil producing countries French President Emmanuel Macron was described as appearing “visibly annoyed” as he discussed commentary on the weeks of rioting hitting French cities by foreign leaders. Despite a growing number of world leaders acknowledging what some have said is obvious – that an unintegrated mass of migrants resident in France is a part of the riots – his remarks have been interpreted as specifically an attack on U.S. President Donald Trump.

Calling foreign leaders making commentary on his failure to control events “stupid” and “unacceptable”, Macron blamed what he said was “foreign manipulation of information” including A.I. generated images of riots leading to foreign observers failing to fall into line with his views on events. The French President said ““Some people even claimed that we had been overrun by hordes of migrants and Islamists, which is completely false” and ranted:

There are people who are running their [election] campaigns at France’s expense. When I see leaders who are campaigning in our own region or on the other side of the Atlantic… who are echoing narratives that certain circles want to propagate about what happened in France, they are campaigning at our expense.

Rejecting the notion that any foreign leader might look on at the widespread rioting, including an alleged hard-left attack on a city hall now being investigated by counter-terror police, and feel concern for a loved European nation, Macron insisted anyone speaking ill of France now is simply not a friend to the country. He said: “All people who speak ill of our country, are people who don’t love [France]”.

Publications like The Guardian and France 24 have pointed to President Donald Trump and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu as targets for President lashing out in this way. And it is not the first time Macron has deflected by attempting to move the focus abroad, including onto President Trump in the course of these riots. But the French leader may find he is running out of supporters of his worldview in Europe, too.

Even government leaders identified as being relatively progressive and centrist-friendly have spoken out on the migration character of the riots in recent days, including even Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Speaking to Bloomberg this week, Merz – a centre-right globalist from the same party as Europe Migrant Crisis author Angela Merkel – stated the violence is “most likely” the result of “non-integrated people” due to “migration”.

Poland and Hungary have both recently undergone change of government after election losses for their previously ruling right-wing-populist administrations, but even with European Union-friendly leadership, both countries have evidently looked on with horror at what has transpired in France in recent weeks.

As reported, the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk – a dedicated Eurocrat and former President of the Council of European – said his country would not “repeat the mistakes” of France and would be “relentless” in defending its own security. The Hungarian Prime Minister, meanwhile, this week rhetorically asked “In the face of this senseless destruction and unjustified violence, perhaps it is now clear to everyone why Hungary advocates the strictest possible approach to migration, and why we will not weaken our border protection or immigration policy under any pressure.”
