Tuesday, during an appearance on FNC’s “Hannity,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) commented on Michigan Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and his alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
According to the Texas Republican, El-Sayed has shown signs of holding antisemitic beliefs.
“Best friends with Hasan Piker,” host Sean Hannity said. “We know where this guy stands. And, you know, why is this guy — you know, how is this a viable candidate for the Democratic Party?”
Cruz replied, “Look, these two candidates you just highlighted, I think, are the two most radical candidates in the country, Abdul El-Sayed and James Talarico. El-Sayed — it’s not complicated. He hates Israel. He hates Jews. I think this man is an open antisemite. By the way, Chuck Schumer and the entire Democrat leadership is proudly standing with him at the same time Hasan Piker is standing along his side. And Abdul El-Sayed does not distance himself from Hasan Piker, who has insulted African-Americans, called them the N-word, insulted them, and has said, quote, ‘America deserved 9/11.’”
“Not only that, you know, a week ago, El-Sayed was on ‘Meet the Press’ and he was asked about his connections and his family’s connections to the Muslim Brotherhood,” he continued. “And he just flat-out lied. He said, ‘No, I have no connections.’ And ‘Meet the Press’ just said, OK, and accepted. And I got to say, Tim Russert must be spitting in his grave because the evidence is overwhelming. So, Abdul El-Sayed repeatedly wrote op-eds defending the Muslim Brotherhood, advocating for the Muslim Brotherhood. When Mohamed Morsi took over Egypt, El-Sayed urged Morsi to purge the press and purge the police. El-Sayed’s sister has tweeted twice that their family has long supported the Muslim Brotherhood. And the single largest donor to the biggest super PAC supporting El-Sayed is his father-in-law, who founded an Islamic organization that is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation criminal case that was a criminal case of funneling over $12 million to Hamas for terrorist activities.”
“I believe this man is Muslim Brotherhood,” Cruz added. “And I’ll tell you, Sean, one of the most frightening things. If he were to win, senators don’t undergo a security clearance. By virtue of being elected to a constitutional office, you are deemed to have a security clearance. Chuck Schumer could place Abdul El-Sayed on the Senate Intelligence Committee. He would have access to the very highest level of classified materials. And I believed if that were to happen, there would be an unacceptably high risk that American servicemen and women, their lives would be endangered and that our covert intelligence assets, their lives would be endangered because there’s every reason to believe Abdul El-Sayed would share that classified information with Muslim Brotherhood terrorists.”
