Reporter gets heartwarming surprise as familiar face pops up during live broadcast

An ace KTLA reporter standing in the rain had a touching chance encounter with her “baby cousin” while live reporting from Rancho Cucamonga.

Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter Megan Telles ran into her cousin, Lauren, as she came into work at Starbucks early Thursday morning.

“When you’re reporting on the rain, and you see your cousin like @mtelles,” KTLA wrote on X.

The clip starts with Telles exclaiming and yelling to her cousin to “come over here.”

“That’s cousin Lauren,” she said, as KTLA anchors Megan Henderson and Chris Schauble reacted.

“Get on over here, girlfriend. She’s like, ‘I don’t have my makeup on,’” Telles joked.

Telles then hugs and interviews her own cousin, even incorporating her further into her report by asking her about the rain.

“As soon as I clocked in, it started pouring. People were running in with umbrellas, everything,” cousin Lauren said.

Telles then begins to wrap up the interview by heartwarmingly complimenting her cousin, telling her that her “lashes are lashing.”

“You know you’re my cousin when,” she joked, asking for a close-up of her lashes.

The interview closes with Telles asking Lauren to say hi to her parents.

“You’re on live television, say hi to mom and dad.”

Telles says her “baby cousin” is in college “doing her thing” and is “making a living here at Starbucks.”

The reporter said she previously asked her cousin to be on camera for the report, but she said no before the chance encounter.

“Love seeing the family,” Henderson said.

“Yeah, that was awesome,” Schauble chimed in.

Telles has been reporting for KTLA since September 2018 and was raised in the area of the interview, Rancho Cucamonga.

She worked as a reporter in Sacramento and had a stint in entertainment reporting before that. The KTLA journalist is a University of Southern California graduate.
