The mother who tragically drowned in the Bahamas while trying to rescue her two young sons who were swept away by a violent current was on a 10th anniversary trip, her grieving husband revealed.
Leanne Gregory, 36, was celebrating her upcoming wedding milestone with husband Nathan off the coast of North Bimini on Oct. 20 when tragedy struck, according to the BBC.
Nathan, who has since returned home to England with their young sons, remembered his wife as “a hero in life and in death” following the “unimaginable” loss.
“I’ve known her since infant school. We first got together when we were 14… so 22 years,” he told the outlet.
“She was the purest of people, the most generous, kind, and beautiful person who ever walked the Earth,” he continued.
“Our relationship was perfect. She was the perfect mother, the perfect wife, the foundation of our entire family.”
The family was setting up towels and bags on the beach while their two boys snorkeled in shallow water moments before disaster struck.
Within moments, the children were pulled out into the open sea by a violent current.
Both parents plunged into the waves in a frantic attempt to save the boys.
While the children were pulled to safety, the 36-year-old mother could not be saved.
The entire ordeal unfolded in less than 10 minutes, her husband said.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said emergency responders were alerted shortly after 10 a.m. to reports of an unresponsive woman at the North Bimini Ferry Dock, according to a statement.
Bystanders performed CPR on the dock before the mom was rushed to a local medical clinic, where she was pronounced dead.
“Our thoughts are with the family of a British woman who has died in the Bahamas,” said the Bahamian Foreign Office in a statement.
“We are in contact with the local authorities and providing support to her family.”
