Rams superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett will play against Commanders

The wait is finally over.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay announced Friday that reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett will be activated off injured reserve and will make his long-awaited return Sunday against the Washington Commanders.

“He’s really done a great job in practice,” McVay said. “He has progressed really well, made a tremendous impact in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.”

He missed more than eight weeks after Garrett underwent microscopic surgery on his left knee following the team’s season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

Garrett’s return couldn’t come at a better time for a Rams team riding consecutive victories after stumbling to a 2-4 start.

Now 4-4, Los Angeles has a chance to climb above .500 for the first time this season, with Garrett joining Aaron Donald and Byron Young on a defensive front that could give opposing quarterbacks nightmares.

“It presents real challenges,” McVay said of how opposing offensive coordinators and head coaches are going to choose to block boy Garrett and Donald moving forward. “I’m grateful that he is back as part of the mix, and I’ve been really pleased with the way that we’ve played as a whole.”

For Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels, that means facing a pass rush suddenly loaded with firepower.

But McVay cautioned that Garrett doesn’t need to play superhero in his first game back.

“He doesn’t have to do anything other than be Myles and play one-eleventh of what the rest of us are asking him to do for the defense,” McVay said.

The Rams have weathered devastating injuries to Jaylen Watson, Poona Ford and Kobie Turner, yet their defense has continued to thrive.

Now, reinforcements are finally arriving.

And with Garrett back in the trenches alongside Donald, the Rams’ battered defense might be getting its most dangerous weapon at precisely the right time.
