An inside look at Sunday’s Giants-Eagles matchup at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia:
Marquee matchup
Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell vs. Giants WR Malik Nabers
This is a high-level duel. Mitchell is one of the top cover corners in the league, and he is having another strong season, despite the failures of the Philly defense.
Mitchell ranks 28th among 102 qualifying cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus, and is allowing a passer rating of 69.2 when targeted.
He travels with the top threat on the opposing team, meaning he will get Nabers early and often.
Nabers is on a roll, with four consecutive games with more than 100 receiving yards.
He has 36 receptions in that span, earning him NFL Offensive Player of the Month honors, and looks all the way back from his ACL surgery.
Of his 48 receptions, 27 have gone for first downs, and he looked in sync right away with J.J. McCarthy.
Key stat
22.5: The Eagles’ blitz percentage this season (26th in the NFL), as defensive coordinator Vic Fangio relies on his front group to apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Paul’s pick
Raise your hand if you believe you know for sure how J.J. McCarthy will play in this spot. John Harbaugh was 15-3 in his 18 years with the Ravens in games coming out of the bye.
Hard to think the injury-ravaged Eagles will just lie down against a rival.
Giants 23, Eagles 21
