A former NYPD police officer was arrested and charged with murder for fatally stabbing a female jogger in New York City on October 30.
Sayed Mohassib, 27, was arrested on Saturday after police identified him as the suspect in the killing of Katie Suarez, 28.
According to The New York Post, Mohassib stabbed Suarez while she was jogging along the waterfront in Brooklyn.
The Post said that Mohassib had no memory of stabbing Suarez. He claimed that he blacked out at the time of the murder and woke up with a knife in his hand and covered in blood.
Katie Suarez’s father went looking for his daughter when she failed to arrive home. He found her fatally stabbed along her usual jogging path.
Authorities believe Mohassib tossed the murder weapon in a trash bin and it was taken to a landfill.
According to The Post, Mohassib served with the New York Police Department and resigned in 2022. He enlisted in the US Marines, but the military discharged him because he was not mentally fit to serve.
At the time of the arrest, Mohassib was employed by the New York City Department of Education and working as a teacher’s aide.
Mohassib was charged with second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The New York Post reported:
A maniac ex-cop was arrested Saturday in the brutal murder of a young woman jogging along a Brooklyn footpath last week — and he claimed he woke up covered in blood with no memory of the heartless stabbing, police sources told The Post.
Sayed Mohassib, 27 — who currently works as an elementary school educator in Brooklyn despite being discharged from the Marines for psychological reasons — was charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 30 slaying of Katie Suarez, police sources said.
Officers tracked him down to his Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, home after picking him up on video leaving the Shore Parkway Greenway around the time Suarez was attacked, the sources said.
Mohassib told cops during his grilling at the 62nd Precinct stationhouse Saturday that he woke up from a blackout covered in blood and with the murder weapon.
He said he ditched the knife in the garbage, and cops believe the trash was taken to a Staten Island landfill before ending up at a New Jersey dump.
