Two pilots were in onboard aircraft when they experienced a mechanical issue and made a desperate attempt at an emergency landing on Bayshore road in Fort Myers on Saturday, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Dramatic video from the road shows the plane’s wings clip the rear of a pickup truck driving in the same direction as the plane after its wheels touched down on the asphalt at a high rate of speed.
The plane then continues rolling down the road, which was packed with traffic, the clip shows.
Miraculously, nobody was hurt .
“Thankfully, this incident had a positive outcome, and no one was injured,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno told CBS 12.
“Given the recent tragic news involving aviation accidents, we are especially grateful that everyone is safe.”
The plane had taken off from Sebring, Fla. around 11 a.m. Sunday before it made the emergency landing about 50 minutes later, according to flight tracking data.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
The close call comes less than a week after a Learjet nose-dived and crashed into the ground in a massive fireball in Palm Beach, killing all nine people onboard.
The cause of that crash remains under investigation.
