Toraya Reid, the sister of Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid, was fatally shot Saturday in Jackson Township, New Jersey.

Reid, 28, was found unresponsive near the entrance of an apartment complex. Officers were called to the scene after reports of shots fired at approximately 11 a.m. ET to find a victim who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Shaquille Green, 29, has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with Reid’s death, said Ocean County prosecutor Bradley Billhimer in a statement. Green was seen running down a nearby road soon after police arrived on the scene and he was later taken into custody without incident.

Reid and Green had been in “a dating relationship,” according to the prosecutor. He is still in an Ocean County jail as of Monday.

Throughout the day on Sunday, Naz Reid shared photos on his Instagram stories of him and his sister on going back to their childhood. One of the images included a caption responding to “sister of Naz Reid” headlines, saying “Her name was Toraya Reid. She was murdered by her boyfriend. She has a name.”

Toraya Reid was the oldest of three children, along with Naz and their younger sister, Jakahya. In a 2023 interview with Mpls St. Paul Magazine, Naz Reid said his sister was like a parent, “super protective” of him and their younger sibling.
