Jake Moody signs with Bears after disastrous Week 1 with 49ers

Jake Moody’s NFL career is not over yet.

The ex-49ers kicker has now found a home with the Bears, joining the Chicago practice squad, NFL Network first reported.

Moody was cut by the 49ers this past week after a poor showing in which he missed two of three field goal attempts in San Francisco’s narrow win over the rival Seahawks to begin the 2025 season.

In Chicago, he’s second to starting kicker Cairo Santos, who could also find himself on the hot seat after missing a key 50-yard field goal in the Bears’ 27-24 loss to the Vikings in Week 1.

Moody, 25, was selected No. 99 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, hitting 84 percent of his kicks during his rookie season before struggling with a 70.6 percent clip last year.

In the first game of this season, the 49ers escaped with a 17-13 win, which Moody had little to do with.

The Michigan alumnus made just one of his three field goal attempts in the win over Seattle, widely whiffing on a 27-yard attempt and having another blocked.

Since the beginning of last year, only Dustin Hopkins of the Browns has made fewer field goals — by percentage — of anyone who has attempted at least 20.

Last year, Moody also went 4-for-9 from 50 or more yards out. Only Matt Gay (3-for-9) had a worse percentage of any kicker who attempted as many or more field goals from distance.

Now, Moody could get a chance to flip the script with Chicago.
