Livvy Dunne seemingly isn’t happy with the Pirates’ collapse on Wednesday.
The LSU gymnast’s boyfriend, star pitcher Paul Skenes, exited Wednesday’s matinee against the Cubs with a 10-3 lead after tossing five innings in what looked like a shoo-in for his ninth big league win.
Disaster would strike shortly after he departed.
In the seventh inning, the Cubs would chip away at Pittsburgh’s lead with a two-spot.
An inning later, they’d cut the lead to two runs with three more of their own.
The floodgates blew open in the final frame, officially spoiling Skenes’ solid outing, with the Cubs bringing home six to take a 14-10 lead.
Dunne took to social media to post a GIF of Skenes saying, “You gotta be kidding me.”
Earlier this month, Dunne dressed up in her boyfriend’s No. 30 Pirates uniform during Fanatics Fest in New York — even sporting his famous mustache.
Skenes has wowed on the field in his first big league season, posting a 2.23 ERA with 136 strikeouts across 109 innings.
But with the Pirates (62-71) out of playoff contention, rumors are swirling about the team potentially shutting down the 22-year-old, who has already thrown a career-high 136 ⅓ innings between the majors and minors this season.
Pittsburgh manager Derek Shelton indicated earlier this month that there were no plans to shut down Skenes, but that he will continue to pitch on five days’ rest for the remainder of the season.
