It looks like Chris Sale will finally get his elusive Cy Young Award.
The Braves southpaw is a massive favorite to win the National League Cy Young after an incredible career turnaround in 2024.
Sale is -2500 at DraftKings Sportsbook to win it, well ahead of Phillies starter Zack Wheeler (+1100) and Pirates rookie Paul Skenes (+3000).
The 35-year-old came over from the Red Sox in a trade during the offseason and has slotted in as the ace of Atlanta’s staff after injuries limited him to just 31 starts over the past four seasons.
Heading into Wednesday’s play, Sale leads the majors with a 2.38 ERA and 213 strikeouts in 166 ⅔ innings, the most he’s thrown in a single season since 2017.
Sale’s been incredibly consistent as the summer has rolled on, allowing two or fewer earned runs in each of his last 16 starts, pitching into at least the fifth inning in each of those outings.
Barring a disaster, it appears Sale will finally get the hardware he has long sought after finishing in the top six in the American League Cy Young voting seven times without ever winning the award.
With so much recent injury history, Sale came into the season as a big-time long shot to win the NL Cy Young.
