Matt Martin’s Islanders career might not be over quite yet.
The Islanders are bringing Martin to training camp on a PTO, Lou Lamoriello said Friday, giving him the chance to make the team and continue a decorated career with the team.
Cal Clutterbuck, who played alongside Martin on the Identity Line and also became a free agent this summer, is not signing a PTO.
Martin faces an uphill battle to make the roster, as the Islanders already have 23 players under contract and can likely only roster 22 due to the salary cap.
Lamoriello himself acknowledged the unlikelihood of him playing with the Isles this season in a conversation with The Post last month, saying it probably would not happen.
Still, if Martin puts together a strong camp, it would create a tough decision for the team brass, which holds him in high regard.
