The noise flying around Ilya Sorokin amounted to a wimper.
Sorokin did suffer an upper-body injury while training over the summer, general manager Lou Lamoriello said Friday, but it’s not expected to keep him sidelined for long.
Sorokin could miss a couple days of training camp, but the season itself is not a concern as of now, Lamoriello said.
He’s also currently skating, a positive sign for his availability.
If the injury did extend into the season, the camp competition for the organization’s third goaltender spot would take on a new importance.
Marcus Hogberg, Tristan Lennox and Keith Kinkaid — who was brought in on a PTO — are all vying for that title.
Sorokin himself is in need of a bounce back season after the 2022 Vezina Trophy finalist lost the No. 1 job late last season and was pulled from his only playoff start.
