The Tyler Van Dyke era in Wisconsin has quickly been sidetracked.
The Badgers quarterback, who transferred to Wisconsin after four polarizing seasons at Miami, exited the team’s highly anticipated clash with No. 4 Alabama on Saturday with an apparent knee injury in the first quarter.
On Wisconsin’s opening drive of the game, Van Dyke scrambled on third down and was tackled near the sideline.
He immediately grabbed at his right knee and remained on the ground in pain before he was carted off the field.
He was ruled out before the start of the second half.
Braedyn Locke, who started three games for the Badgers last year, replaced Van Dyke.
The Badgers ended up kicking a field goal on the drive and took a 3-0 lead, but Van Dyke’s injury overshadowed the strong start.
Alabama took a 7-3 edge by the end of the first quarter.
Van Dyke later returned to the sidelines on crutches with a brace on his right leg.
