Ghoulish gawkers turn bloody Mark Sanchez crime scene into Indianapolis tourist attraction

INDIANAPOLIS — Ghoulish gawkers are turning the scene of Mark Sanchez’s stabbing into one of Indianapolis’ hottest new tourist attractions.

Passersby have been stopping and taking pictures at the stretch of downtown sidewalk where Sanchez limped after being knifed around midnight Saturday.

The trail of blood was still spattered up the sidewalk and into the alley on Monday after the ex Jets quarterback allegedly bashed a grease truck driver.

“It sounds like he deserved it,” a woman said to her coworker as they walked by scene Tuesday. “He beat up a 69-year-old man.”

Another horror-loving Hoosier said the incident was the most exciting thing to hit Indianapolis in ages — so no wonder everybody was stopping by to have a look.

“Nothing interesting happens down here,” she said.

“It’s pretty f–king crazy,” a friend chimed in.

They were just a handful of the people The Post observed commenting on the attack near Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery in the heart of the city — with more than a few following the blood into the alley and to take photos.

Sanchez, 38, was allegedly drunk and doing wind sprints in the alleyway by Loughmiller’s when he encountered Perry Tole on his route to pick up cooking oil from the kitchens at the nearby hotels.

The Fox Sports analyst allegedly became enraged that the truck was blocking the alley — and climbed into the truck when Tole said he couldn’t hear because he had taken out his hearing aids, according to cops.

After Sanchez body-slammed Tole, the elderly driver pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez, later telling police he was fearful for his life.

Tole suffered a severe laceration to his face when Sanchez allegedly stabbed him through the cheek with Tole’s own blade.

The ex NFL player staggered bleeding from the alleyway and down the street — where he was seen on video obtained by The Post clutching his bloody wound.

Both men are now in stable condition.

“I’m shocked that people still act like that,” said a worker from a neighboring Westin Hotel as they stood by the blood. “I’m just shocked that we can’t be cordial enough to let someone do their job.”

“I’m pretty sure the waste management guy was just trying to do his job and go home,” they added.

Sanchez has been arrested and charged with felony battery over the alleged attack. He told police he has little memory of the fight, according to an arrest affidavit.

Another passerby said the incident was sure to go down in history alongside one of the most notorious plays of Sanchez’s NFL career.

“The infamous butt fumble,” she said.
