Keith McPherson leaving WFAN for personal reasons: ‘I wasn’t fired’

Keith McPherson said he’s leaving WFAN as a full-time host due to personal reasons and schedule conflicts with his family in a social media video shared Monday.

McPherson, who joined The Fan as Steve Somers’ replacement following the longtime host’s exit in 2021, explained that he shared the news so nobody else could “hijack the story” with falsities about his departure.

“Good morning and happy Monday, I’d like to break some news before anybody else can break my news, I am officially done as a nighttime host at WFAN. It has been four calendar years,” McPherson, who is a die-hard Yankees and Nets fan, said in a video on X and Instagram.

Friday was his last show as a full-time nighttime host.

“I may be back to do some nights. I may be back to do some part-time fill-in spots,” McPherson said. “But I’m breaking the news. You’ll hear it right from the horse’s mouth, the host’s mouth, before anyone can hijack the story and say I was fired or my contract was up.

“I wasn’t fired. I’m not quitting. My contract is not up. I’m shifting. I’m making a personal change that was necessary for myself and my family. I just took my son to school, just saw my wife leave for work and got a minute to sit down here before the day gets rolling.”

McPherson did not expand further about his personal reasons for leaving the job he previously said was a “dream come true” for him.

“Breaking News: After four years, I have decided to end my time as the full time nighttime host on WFAN -due to personal reasons and schedule conflicts with my family. More on this later,” his caption read.
