How the Giants brace for the inevitable calamities that happen before the season

If the guy in charge cannot be somewhat stoic about it, he’ll drive himself crazy. He’ll be unable to sleep at night and second-guess every decision he makes about how hard to push the team.

Brian Daboll has been at it long enough, as a low-level assistant, position coach, offensive coordinator and now, in his fourth Giants training camp as a head coach, to understand no one wants to talk about something that, unfortunately, is inevitable.

“Well, that’s football, so there’s going to be injuries,” Daboll said prior to the first practice of camp this summer. “There’s injuries every year. I think you rely on your supporting cast, our trainers, our nutritionist who we hired this past season, who’s done a fabulous job — Matt Frakes — he talked to the team.

“You try to educate them on the things that you can educate them on: hydration, lifting, stretching, prehab work, what they do in a hot tub, cold tub, the training staff. And then you go out there and play, and there’s going to be injuries. You wish there wasn’t, but there is. And then you make sure that people behind the people that get injured are ready to go.”
