Dramatic new bodycam footage captured the moment Portland police hit a gun-wielding naked maniac who was high on meth with their squad car in a wild chase during which the suspect escaped twice.
“You guys see a naked guy running around?” yelled an officer into his radio on the night of Nov. 5, according to the footage released last Wednesday.
The sound of a gunshot rings out in the video, then a naked man is seen sprinting across the street with a gun in hand.
“I’m gonna hit him,” says one of the officers in the police vehicle. His partner responds “OK”.
The cop driving speeds up, strikes the naked man on the left side of the cruiser, flinging him onto the hood of the car, according to the video.
The officers quickly open their doors and try to find the gun.
At first the madman seems to follow orders, but as the cops are searching for his weapon, he suddenly jumps up and escapes.
A foot chase ensues, and officers are left sprinting after the suspect.
When the officers catch up to him, the perpetrator follows their command to get on the ground, but after a few moments he once again leaps up and tries to escape into an office building.
Before making it through the glass doors he realizes he’s trapped between the cops and a security guard.
“Tase him!” shouts one of the cops.
The other tases the naked man, who begins slamming his head on the concrete sidewalk, causing him to bleed. One of the officers holds the man’s head so he can’t injure himself anymore.
Later, police say the man admitted to taking meth.
Both officers who were in the car that hit the naked man are veterans of the Portland Police Bureau. The bureau is investigating the “deadly use of force”, according to KGW8.
