A ambush attack on an Iranian police convoy Saturday by a domestic terror group killed at least 10 officers, according to authorities.

There were limited details about the incident, which took place in Gohar Kuh, in Iran’s restive southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

Initial reports attributed the bombardment to “miscreants.” The jihadist group Jaish al-Adl later claimed responsibility for the attack. The militant Sunni group, which formerly called itself Jundallah, has a history of targeting Shiite government officials and security personnel with hit-and-run attacks.

Ten police officers were reportedly killed in the attack.

HalVash – an advocacy group for the Baluch people of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan – posted photos and video footage of what appeared to be a disabled truck painted with the green stripe used by Iranian police vehicles.

The attack targeted two security force vehicles, the group said.

All of the officers riding in the trucks were reportedly killed.

One graphic photo purportedly showed the bodies of two of the slain officers in the front seat of a truck.

Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s interior minister, ordered an investigation into the incident, the state-run IRNA news agency said.

Sistan and Baluchistan province, one of the least developed parts of Iran, borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
