18-year-old California college student dumped at hospital following fraternity event dies

An 18-year-old student at Cal State Fullerton died after a fraternity function at the college, with alcohol eyed as a factor in his death, police said.

Anthony Joseph Blas was dropped at the emergency department of St. Jude Medical Center shortly after midnight Saturday and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fullerton Police Department.

Investigators determined Blas had been attending an event at an unaffiliated fraternity, saying “alcohol consumption appears to have been a contributing factor in the male’s death.”

Police said hazing was not a factor and there is no evidence of foul play, and an investigation is ongoing.

Blas had only recently begun his college journey. In May, Los Altos High School celebrated the graduating senior’s impressive list of college acceptances, announcing that he planned to attend CSUF in the fall.

The school said he had also been accepted to Cal Poly Pomona, Sacramento State, University of Pittsburgh, University of Arizona, Michigan State, University of Oregon, Northern Arizona State, Oregon State, Arizona State, University of Nevada: Reno, University of Nevada: Las Vegas, Whittier College, Cal Lutheran, La Verne, Utah State, Utah Tech and University of Utah.
