Two Syracuse cops were reportedly blasted by a shotgun-toting lunatic who barricaded himself inside an apartment after slicing a dog with a machete on Saturday.
The suspect, who has not been identified, was holed up in an apartment building in the downtown Syracuse area, according to local WSYR-TV citing authorities.
The situation remains active.
The two police officers shot were taken to Upstate Medical Hospital and are in stable condition, the outlet reported.
A third officer was also injured – not shot – and taken to UMH, according to reports.
Cops were responding to a call of a maniac menacing people and knifing a dog with a machete shortly after noon.
They were shot at through the window of an apartment, according to Syracuse.com.
The surrounding area is currently on lockdown, including parts of Interstate-81, putting a hitch in the plans of thousands of visitors to the Salt City for Syracuse University’s graduation.
Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens said the two officers shot were in “good spirits” at the hospital, WSYR-TV reported.
