There are two huge names at the top of the early ALCS MVP oddsboard now that the Yankees have a 2-0 series lead over the Guardians, but that doesn’t mean one should be there.
Juan Soto is the small favorite to win (+140, DraftKings) what is officially named the Lee MacPhail Award, while Aaron Judge is just on his tail at +165 odds.
Judge’s high placement would appear to be just respect for the expected 2024 AL MVP, as Judge is 1-for-5 in the ALCS. He is just 3-for-18 in the postseason.
Meanwhile, Soto is just 1-for-6 in the ALCS, so this is all just a projection of the future games and who will most help their teams advance to the World Series.
One intriguing option for bettors is Gleyber Torres at +900, who is 4-for-9 in the ALCS in the leadoff spot and has been major catalyst for the Yankees’ strong offensive performance in these playoffs.
Another Yankee hero, Giancarlo Stanton, is 1-for-7 with a homer in the ALCS but could be an intriguing wager at 13/1 as the hottest hitter on the Yankee squad.
On the flip side, this market is mostly pointless to bet on the Guardians, not because they can’t rally from a 2-0 hole, but because no one has really played well for them.
Jose Ramirez is 22/1 to win the ALCS MVP but you’re better off betting on the Guardians to win the series at +550 odds if you believe in them to mount a comeback that only 15 teams have done in MLB history.
