A powerful nor’easter could be headed for NYC: Here’s how much snow we’ll get and when it’ll start

There’s no rest for the winter-weary.

Sick-of-the-snow New Yorkers could get coated by a few more inches this weekend, as a powerful nor’easter churns off the Atlantic coast, meteorologists said Friday.

The Big Apple is likely to be hit by 1 to 3 inches of snow Sunday evening into Monday morning with strong wind gusts up to 40 mph, said AccuWeather chief meteorologist Jonathan Porter.

There is a 15% chance the storm moves west and blankets the city with up to 6 inches, he added.

“There could be some travel disruptions and some slippery streets Sunday,” said Porter. “I would leave a little extra time getting where you need to be on Monday.”

Flurries are forecast to begin falling around 11 a.m. Sunday, causing slushy streets, but won’t likely stick until Sunday evening, when temperatures drop below freezing, he said.

The snowfall is then forecast to taper off around 11 a.m. Monday.

“Importantly, the snow is likely to be heaviest overnight,” he said. “If you can avoid traveling Sunday night, that would be advised.”

Eastern Long Island is expected to be among the New York City region’s hardest hit areas with a forecast of 3 to 6 inches of snow.

The nor’easter comes as the mounds of dirty, trash-littered snow from storms in late January and last Monday have started to melt away in the Big Apple.

It’s going to be a while until the snow melts completely, Porter said.

“Next week can start chilly into Tuesday, but the stronger late February sun angle can result in some melting of the new snow,” he told The Post.

“There can be additional melting of residual snow piles from previous snowstorms from next Thursday into the following weekend with high temperatures reaching 45 to 50 degrees during the afternoons.”

But he added, “The most substantial snow piles may not be gone until well into March.”
