Put in an impossible position, Andy Green stepped into a crowded Mets clubhouse and did “the best he possibly could,” in the words of A.J. Minter.

On Friday, in the aftermath of a firing of Carlos Mendoza that felt both inevitable and surprising, if only because it had not happened sooner, the former (and future) senior VP for player development and current interim manager gathered the Mets and authored his first rallying speech in Queens.

The overall message: Play the game, do not worry about tomorrow or yesterday and ignore the outside noise and expectations.

Let others feel pressure and focus on the game itself.
