The Chicago Sky have hired a new head coach.

Chicago is bringing in Tyler Marsh to lead its team next season, ESPN reported Saturday.

Marsh has worked on the Las Vegas Aces’ staff since 2022 as the an assistant coach and the team’s head of player development.

While on the staff, the Aces won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, and reached the semifinals this past season.

“The Chicago Sky organization is proud to welcome our next head coach Tyler Marsh to Skytown,” a team spokesperson said Saturday night. “Coach Marsh is widely respected for the development of elite players and shares our goal of being a playoff and championship contender every year.”

The news comes after the Sky fired Teresa Weatherspoon in September following a season in which the team finished 13-27 and missed out on the playoffs, despite a terrific rookie season from Angel Reese.

At the time of the firing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that there was a “disconnect” developing that became apparent during the season’s exit interviews.

In the days after the dismissal, Reese told the outlet that she had trouble imagining playing for another coach

“I can’t imagine playing for the Sky without [Spoon],” Reese told the Sun-Times. “She’s the one reason I wanted to come here.”

However, in early October, Chicago GM Jeff Pagliocca said that things between the team and Reese had “calmed down.”

“The franchise’s relationship with Angel is in a good spot,” Pagliocca said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “Emotions were high for a couple days, and we can respect that. We can appreciate it. We understand that there’s bonds that are built with coaches and players, especially the young ones.

“So, we’re in a good place right now. We’re back in discussions. Everything has calmed down quite a bit, but I understand it. Emotions are a real part of this thing when you have a real friendship.”

Marsh is now the fourth Sky head coach in three seasons.
