WORCESTER, Mass. — Anthony Volpe started at shortstop for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday night.

Beyond that, Volpe doesn’t have many answers after being optioned to the minors following his rehab stint as he came back from offseason surgery on his left shoulder.

While many were surprised the Yankees optioned the 25-year-old in favor of keeping José Caballero at short in The Bronx, Volpe said: “I don’t know. There are things I can control [and] things I can’t. I’m ready to go here.”

And although he remained at short against Triple-A Worcester at Polar Park, the Yankees haven’t ruled out the possibility of moving Volpe around the infield, especially given the presence of George Lombard Jr. on the SWB roster as the 20-year-old Lombard shoots through the minor league system.
