Baptist Baseball Fans Torn Between Rooting For Team Named After Devil Or Team Named After Beer

ALPHARETTA, GA — A full-time Baptist and part-time baseball fan is reportedly struggling ahead of the coming World Series matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, unsure whether to root for the team named after beers or the team named after devils.

Rob Milton, a longtime member of Second Baptist Church, expressed excitement over Friday’s first game of the World Series until he realized that no matter which team he rooted for, it would violate his conscience.

“I mean, I have to root for someone, right? Or it’s not a proper ball game,” Milton said. “I guess devils are at least kind of spiritual, and we are supposed to believe in them. But cheer for them? I can’t do that. But on the other hand — beer! Oh, this is hard!”

Milton reportedly shared his frustration with a local men’s prayer group. He learned others felt similarly, and some were even planning on boycotting the World Series altogether. “Is it too much to ask for a good, clean game between the Guardians and the Diamondbacks?” asked church member Jeff Webbleton. “Why does Satan tempt us so?”

At publishing time, Milton had announced he would be hosting an anti-World Series party where the men could come over to his house and drink lemonade while watching Left Behind.
