BBC anchor faces backlash after ‘hissing’ when musician DC3 names Jesus Christ as his hero

A BBC News anchor set off an online firestorm after she apparently “hissed” at a young musician who named Jesus Christ as one of his heroes.

Geeta Guru-Murthy let loose with the unfiltered reaction Saturday while interviewing up and coming musician DC3, whose given name is Daniel Chenjerai.

“Santan Dave, Kendrick Lamar, most of all, Jesus Christ,” the 18-year-old replied on air when Guru-Murthy asked him to list those he admired.

Guru-Murthy, 58, sharply and audibly winced right after hearing “Jesus Christ,” sparking memes and backlash on social media with X users slamming the host and the network, claiming they were biased against Christians.

“BBC’s [Geeta Guru-Murthy] hisses at a man who says Jesus Christ is his hero. Imagine the outrage if this happened with Prophet Muhammad,” journalist Peter Lloyd wrote on X.

“Why did the BBC news reader act like the man said a racial slur mentioning Jesus Christ,” X user Didumissthenews mused.

Others shared memes inspired by the seemingly unconscious reaction, likening Guru-Murthy to a vampire offended by a bright light while another poster cast her as Golem, from “The Lord of The Rings.”

DC3, who appeared on the BBC after being nominated for two 2026 MOBO Awards, took up the sword on social media following the on-air insult.

“Jesus Christ is real,” he wrote in a post to X.

“The revolution will be televised in Jesus name,” he wrote in a follow-up post.

The 58-year-old pushed back on accusations of bias, claiming she was merely doing her job.

“I’ve seen there’s some discussion about the end of my interview with DC3 this week. For the record, I was simply breathing in before moving to end the interview,” Guru-Murthy wrote on X

“To suggest anything else is just untrue,” she concluded, tagging the BBC in the post.

A spokesperson for the BBC said of the alleged hissing at the name Jesus Christ, “This is categorically untrue.”
