President Joe Biden faced significant backlash after calling the tens of millions of people who voted for President Donald Trump “garbage,” a remark that the administration has frantically tried to clean up amid the fallout.
Biden made the remark while speaking on a campaign call Tuesday night about an insult comedian who performed at a Trump rally over the weekend who called Puerto Rico “garbage”.
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American. It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been.”
Biden faced considerable backlash as clips of his remarks garnered millions of views online.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) posted on X: “What an outrageous smear of half the country from the president. Joe Biden’s long career is ending in disgrace, confusion, and embarrassment.”
“That’s not a gaffe: it’s what he and Kamala Harris genuinely think about you,” Cotton added.
Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) responded: “A mother mourning her son who died of a fentanyl overdose is not garbage. A truck driver who can’t afford rising diesel prices is not garbage. A father who wants to afford groceries is not garbage.”
He added, “Kamala Harris and Joe Biden ought to be ashamed of themselves.”
North Dakota Republican Governor Doug Burgum said: “After suffering under four years of failed Harris-Biden policies, Americans who love our country are being attacked by the Harris-Biden Administration in another Hillary Clinton ‘deplorables’ smear.”
“So, here is the president calling any American voting for the Republican candidate ‘floating pieces of garbage,’” said conservative actor James Woods. “Let’s send this worthless fool back to his basement, send his cackling border czar back to San Francisco, and reclaim America from these vermin.”
Former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted on X: “Deplorables, Nazis, Garbage. Can we talk about issues rather than dividing Americans?”
