Blazing, “movie-like” Long Island house fire leaves woman dead

A fast-moving blaze left a woman dead and her Long Island home destroyed Thursday morning, officials said.

Three residents were inside when the fire broke out in the two-story house near North Windsor Drive and Ontario Drive around 1:30 a.m. in Bay Shore, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

When firefighters arrived, the structure at 1417 North Windsor Avenue was fully engulfed in flames, which spread to two neighboring homes.

A man was injured while another managed to escape the towering inferno inside the wood-frame home but the woman inside could not be saved, cops said.

Bay Shore Fire Chief John Ippolito Jr. said he requested help from 13 other nearby fire departments because “of the intensity of the wind” and freezing temperatures.

“The fire was wind-driven,” he told The Post.

“We had some pretty high wind gusts going through town this morning and that hampered our operation pretty drastically.”

Video obtained by The Post shows the home burned to the ground.

Officials said the woman, who has not been publicly identified, was found amid the rubble.

Locals described the fire as a scene out of a movie.

“My neighbors were crying because they didn’t know if their house was next, and it was surreal,” Bay Shore resident Rochelle Brown told News 12 Long Island.

“It was movie-like.”

Four adults and one child were displaced from the nearby homes, the station reported.

Police said it’s unknown how the fire started but does not appear to be criminal.
