Breece Hall finds little joy in 1,000-yard year amid Jets’ lost season

When you lose 42-10 to the Patriots, when your team is 3-13, when you have never in your four years as a Jet experienced the playoffs, it is understandably difficult for you to celebrate your first 1,000-yard season.

“Not happy. Cool accolade, but been through a lot this season, been through a lot the last four years, so . . . it is what it is,” Breece Hall said.

Hall began the day with 954 rushing yards and finished with 1,065.

He became the first Jets running back since Chris Ivory in 2015 to reach the milestone, doing so on his 10th carry, a 7-yard run late in the third quarter.

Asked if he had been keeping track of what he needed, he smiled and said, “Nah.”

It was 42-3 when Hall exploded through a huge hole for a 59-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

“Just everyone doing their 1/11th and the play works,” Hall said. “O-line and receivers made the play, I just finished it.”

Hall was removed after injuring a knee on a 1-yard loss around left end not long after.

“It’s fine,” he said. “Just kinda landed on it a little weird, and hadn’t really felt that before, so they just wanted to be safe and everything. I probably won’t need to get any tests or anything.”

He was asked if there was any concern about having the franchise back in the game so late in a blowout.

“No comment,” Hall said.

He will be a free agent following the season. Aaron Glenn has sounded very much like he wants Hall back to lead a running back by committee. His pursuit of 1,000 yards had been slowed by inadequate quarterback play and Garrett Wilson on the shelf.

“It sucks that it had to happen in a loss or whatever,” Hall said. “I feel like I should even have got to that mark a few weeks ago but it’s just been a lot going on here. It’s been tough, but it’s a blessing. I’m blessed to be in this position, so it was cool.”

Others were happy for him.

“He’s an extremely talented back, and he deserves it,” center Josh Myers said. “Really happy we were able to get that done for him.”
