Talk about a love affair gone wrong. A California cop couple is accused of cooking up a drug-evidence switcheroo after one officer’s narcotics stash went missing, with his girlfriend allegedly helping him cover his tracks.

San Jose officers Raydarius Surry, 29, and Destiney Thompson, 30, were arrested Wednesday and booked into Santa Clara County Jail over the alleged scheme.

The trouble began when a bag of suspected narcotics Surry had documented in an arrest report disappeared before reaching police evidence.

When the department questioned the missing stash, Surry allegedly found a replacement during an unrelated pedestrian stop, taking a similar bag of suspected drugs before abandoning the case.

Investigators say he then submitted the replacement as evidence from the original arrest, allegedly passing off one bag for another in an attempt to conceal the disappearance.

Thompson, his romantically involved colleague, allegedly helped the operation along by accessing body-camera footage from the original arrest according to KTVU.

The couple now each face one count of tampering with evidence and one count of filing a false police report.

San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph said the department had moved quickly to remove the officers from duty and pursue criminal accountability.

“Falsifying evidence or police reports is a crime, and our Department moved swiftly to remove both officers from duty and pursue criminal accountability,” Joseph said.

“These allegations, if proven to be true, constitute a failure to live up to the standards our community has a right to expect.”

Both live in Gilroy.

The allegations have not been proven.
