Career criminal with more than 70 prior busts tries to rape woman on Manhattan subway: cops

A career criminal maniac with more than 70 prior arrests tried to rape a woman in a brutal attack on a Manhattan subway train Thursday that was broken up by some good Samaritans who heard screams, sources said.

Tyriek Martin — whose rap sheet includes a 2021 bust for bashing a 2-year-old girl with a suitcase — randomly approached the 34-eyar-old victim on a northbound W train approaching the Times Square-42nd Street subway station just after noon, sources said.

The 34-year-old alleged attacker smashed her head against a pole, threw her to the floor, climbed on top of her and tried to sexually assault her, cops and sources said.

The brave but battered victim — who was alone in the car with her attacker — managed to resist the violent menace and screamed for help as the train pulled into the major transit hub, a police source said.

Martin was arrested back in May 2021 for allegedly walloping a 2-year-old girl in the face with a suitcase in Lower Manhattan, police said.

The toddler was walking with her mother near the corner of Bowery and Stanton Street when the random attack occurred at about 6:25 p.m., according to cops.

The senseless attack left the girl with a cut right under her eye.

He was also arrested in April 2022 for assault after allegedly throwing an aerosol can at an NYPD traffic agent, the source said.

In both the attacks, he was found mentally unfit to stand trial and the cases were dismissed “by function of law,” according to the Manhattan DA’s office.

He was last arrested on August 11, 2024, for drug possession in Manhattan, cops said. The status of that case was not immediately clear.
