Creepy cop allegedly caught spying on his ex-girlfriend using tyrannical tactics

A Bell police officer is facing three years in prison for allegedly spying on his ex-girlfriend with a GPS tracking device placed discreetly on her car. 

James Ixcoy is also accused of trying to get information on his ex-beau’s former boyfriend by illegally accessing a California Department of Motor Vehicles database. 

The officer was arrested on Monday and is scheduled to be arraigned on October 2 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. 

“Mr. Ixcoy, a sworn law enforcement officer, is accused of going to great lengths to secretly and surreptitiously find information about two people who were totally unaware he was abusing his authority as a police officer,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. 

Ixcoy is charged with one felony count of accessing and using computer data without permission and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of an electronic tracking device.

“When an officer forsakes his duty to serve the public and instead illicitly accesses these databases and places GPS tracking devices on cars to serve his own private interests, as has been alleged against Officer Ixcoy, he is looking at spending time in a cell for such misguided actions,” Hochman added.

The charges stem from a July 17 incident last year when Ixcoy allegedly ran a DMV registration inquiry without permission on a car belonging to a man, who also had dated his ex-girlfriend. 

A month later on August 18, 2025, he allegedly placed a GPS tracker on his ex-beau’s vehicle. The authorities were able to recover the spying device. 

If Ixcoy is convicted, he could spend up to three years and six months in a county jail.
