El Presidente’s bank account is bleeding about as much as Curt Schilling’s sock

Barstool Sports owner and Boston super fan Dave Portnoy ripped into his team on Wednesday, calling them “the worst team in baseball” after vowing to bet on all 162 games before the season.

“The Red Sox are the worst team in baseball and have been favored in all but 1 game,” Portnoy said on X. “Wild stat. I keep thinking they’ll turn it around, but the team really sucks from top to bottom. They are non-competitive like 80 percent of the time.”

The post included a clip from a local broadcast of the Red Sox’s 2013 World Series parade, where team chairman Tom Werner led an unenthusiastic “Let’s go Red Sox” chant.

Portnoy’s claim that the Red Sox have been favorites in all but one game is inaccurate — they opened as favorites in 15 of their 17 games through Wednesday afternoon.

His criticism comes on the heels of a lifeless 6-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

Boston’s marquee offseason trade acquisition, Sonny Gray, surrendered nine hits and two home runs in four innings while only striking out one hitter.

The Red Sox dropped to 6-11 and sit in last place of the AL East, down 3 ½ games behind the division-leading Rays. All six of their wins have come in games where they were favored.

This isn’t the first outburst from Portnoy regarding the Red Sox’s early woes. After Boston’s 2-7 start, Portnoy said he never thought betting all 162 games would be “so miserable.”

Portnoy also ranted about the club’s lack of urgency earlier this month on “Wake Up Barstool,” saying the team is “ruining my life” and criticizing Red Sox owner John Henry for his aim to “make money, not to win championships.”

He also said on X that a “little league team could have turned” a botched double play between second baseman Marcelo Mayer and shortstop Trevor Story against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 7.

Everything has gone south for the former northeast powers since opening the year with the third-best odds to win the AL East, as FanGraphs projected them as the No. 1 pitching rotation in all of baseball.

Boston owns a 4.52 ERA and has allowed 1.40 home runs per nine innings, while the offense is slashing .233/.316/.346 with five everyday players hitting below .200.

Ace pitcher Garrett Crochet had the most grim start of his career in Monday’s 13-6 loss to the Twins. The two-time All-Star was tagged for 11 runs in 1 ⅔ innings.

Meanwhile, rookie outfielder Roman Anthony has drawn scrutiny for defensive miscues in left field, and Boston also made headlines for an embarrassing ABS challenge in which Andruw Monasterio tapped his helmet on an 88 mph plain-as-day strike.

Boston’s odds have dropped to +550 to win the AL East and stand at 11/1 to win the American League per FanDuel Sportsbook
